Punishment in America
I collaborated with Reunion on Punishment in America, an animated short film commissioned by the Equal Justice Initiative. The piece is currently on permanent display at The Legacy Museum in Montgomery, Alabama.
A central focus of my process was developing a custom library of analog assets to give the film a raw, tangible feeling. I personally created and scanned dozens of stop-motion sequences, including hand-rolled ink textures and charcoal scribbles on paper. These became my handmade mattes for use in After Effects and the scribble elements were added as textural details throughout the compositing phase. By integrating these physical, stop-motion assets I was able to bridge the gap between digital animation and a visceral, tactile aesthetic that honors the gravity of the film’s subject matter.
